This is the second volume of one-act plays written for Zoom.
In these odd days of Covid, I’ve noticed more and more theatre groups are turning to the internet to keep theatre alive. Zoom plays are becoming ever more common, and many are a delight to watch. However, an online format is very restrictive. The challenge then, is can an online format be an asset? Can we take those disjointed faces on the screen and use that to add atmosphere to a story?
“The Girl With Two Lives” was written with a Zoom format in mind. “Defective Me” was not, but is easily adapted by a clever director (is there any other sort?) Each character can appear on a screen, they can appear and disappear as the script demands. Stage directions are, obviously, minimal. These plays rely on the words, and the skill of the performers.
As with my other plays, I offer them to any group free of charge, as long as I remain the named playwright. I hope they give something fresh and new to anyone who chooses to perform them.
Of course, once Covid has passed and the world goes back to normal, then these plays could easily be adapted for traditional theatre.
