Welcome to the fascinating world of astronomy, young explorers! In this 2019 edition of Children Astronomy, we are going to embark on an exhilarating journey to understand the wonders of the solar system. Prepare yourselves to learn all about the planets, stars, and everything that makes our universe a mesmerizing entity.
What is the Solar System?
The solar system is an incredible marvel that encompasses the sun, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and numerous other celestial bodies. It is a vast system located in the Milky Way galaxy and has been the subject of endless fascination for astronomers, scientists, and curious minds like yours.

The Planets:
There are eight planets in our solar system, each with its own distinctive features and mysteries waiting to be unraveled. Let's take a closer look at our neighboring planets:
1. Mercury:
Mercury, the closest planet to the Sun, is a rocky planet that is heavily bombarded by asteroids due to its proximity to the Sun. It has a thin atmosphere and extreme temperature variations that range from scorching hot to freezing cold.
2. Venus:
Venus, often referred to as Earth's sister planet, is known for its incredibly thick atmosphere, making it the hottest planet in our solar system. It has a beautiful appearance due to its dense cloud cover, and it experiences intense volcanic activity.
3. Earth:
Our remarkable home, Earth, is the only known planet to support life. It is abundant in water, possesses a breathable atmosphere, and features diverse ecosystems that house millions of species, including us, humans.
4. Mars:
Mars, often referred to as the "Red Planet," has fascinated astronomers for centuries. It has a thin atmosphere, distinct seasons, and features intriguing landforms such as canyons and volcanoes. Scientists believe that Mars might have had conditions suitable for life in the past.
5. Jupiter:
Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, is famous for its mesmerizing bands of clouds and the incredible Great Red Spot. It has numerous moons and a strong magnetic field, making it a fascinating subject of scientific research.
6. Saturn:
Saturn, known for its stunning ring system, is often considered the most beautiful planet in our solar system. It has a thick atmosphere, many moons, and is home to intriguing phenomena such as powerful storms and hurricanes.
7. Uranus:
Uranus, the seventh planet from the Sun, boasts a unique feature - a tilted rotational axis. This leads to extreme seasons and peculiar magnetic field orientations. Uranus remains a mysterious planet with much to be discovered.
8. Neptune:
Neptune, the farthest planet from the Sun, is famous for its captivating vibrant blue color. It has strong winds, icy clouds, and a fascinating moon named Triton. Exploration of Neptune remains a future ambition for scientists.
Moons, Asteroids, and Comets:
The solar system is not only about planets. It encompasses a plethora of moons, asteroids, and comets as well. Moons orbit planets, asteroids are rocky objects that can be found primarily in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, and comets are icy bodies that undergo striking transformations when they approach the Sun.
:
Congratulations, little astronomers, on exploring the wonders of our vast solar system! We hope this 2019 edition of Children Astronomy has ignited your curiosity and fascination for the universe. Remember, the solar system is just the beginning of our cosmic journey.
