Dogs of Barranco

Thinking of retiring to another country? Or moving to another country for work?
Be aware that your careful plans for living in another culture can falter in the face of the details of everyday living. You can transfer your life to one of the world's best places to live and still be miserable. Learn from my mistakes and successes. Or, if you are comfortable in your home, you can just experience vicariously the journey I and my family have traveled. I promise some good stories and few laughs.

Come along with me from the very start, the first days after our arrival in Peru. Then you can have a taste of what it has been like living in Barranco, a small beach town near Lima. Walk with me and my dogs, Ariel and Falcor, as we explore our new neighbor hood and become local celebrities

Moving to another country for retirement or work can be a very challenging experience. Alternatively, living abroad can be a time of great personal growth and pleasure. I know people who are having a wonderful time with their overseas experience and, unfortunately, others who are miserable. Why the difference? What is the secret?

No magic bullet exists. Each situation is a little different. However, I do believe we can learn from others' experiences. I my case I have been living as an expatriate in Peru for the past nine years. My stories, thus, are my way of sharing my experiences in Peru.

From the more than three hundred articles I have published, I have selected some of my favorites for this book in the hope that you will find them entertaining and useful as a guide to living in another culture.

By way of background, I grew up in California, but with dreams of exploring the world.
